Can I mute the annoying ding sound?

You can modify/remove the actual audio file in the attached path if you're so inclined. The filename is "MA_OriginalSound_InfographicIdeas_1.wav" just make sure that anything you replace it with has that exact same name.

You can also download a muted version from the Discord community.
